Gate Motor Repair Wellington – Centurion D10 SMART Upgrade

Cape Winelands Automation recently completed a gate motor replacement in Wellington after a Centurion D5-Evo suffered serious damage.

The damaged motor could not be returned to service as a reliable long-term solution. We therefore assessed the gate and its mechanical components before selecting a replacement motor.

For this installation, we upgraded the gate to a Centurion D10 SMART.

The upgrade also included new gate wheels, a new rack, track refurbishment and several additional safety and access-control improvements.

This was more than simply replacing a damaged gate motor. We used the opportunity to improve the complete gate system and make the installation more suitable for long-term use.

Why the D5-Evo Was Replaced

The Wellington complex contacted Cape Winelands Automation after the existing Centurion D5-Evo gate motor was damaged and required attention.

After assessing the gate and the existing installation, we determined that simply repairing the damaged motor was not the right long-term solution for this application. The gate required a more substantial upgrade designed around dependable daily operation.

We therefore recommended replacing the damaged D5-Evo with a Centurion D10 SMART.

The D10 SMART is designed for heavier and higher-volume gate applications. Centurion rates the D10 SMART for gates up to 1,000 kg and up to 750 operations per day, making it a suitable choice where a more robust gate motor solution is required.

The replacement also gave us an opportunity to improve the mechanical side of the gate. Instead of treating the motor as an isolated component, we upgraded the wheels, rack, guide wheels and gate track as part of the installation.

This approach helps create a complete gate automation system rather than simply replacing a damaged motor.

Refreshing the Gate Track and Upgrading the Wheels

A reliable gate motor depends on more than the motor itself. The gate must also move smoothly, and the wheels and track need to be in good condition.

As part of this Wellington gate motor upgrade, we refreshed the existing gate track using 12mm round bar. The round bar was welded onto the existing track to provide a renewed running surface for the upgraded gate wheels.

We also replaced the existing gate wheels with 120mm wheels and welded them securely into position on the gate.

The larger wheels and refreshed track form an important part of the overall upgrade. By improving the way the gate runs mechanically, the new Centurion D10 SMART does not have to work against unnecessary resistance from worn or unsuitable gate components.

This is an important part of our approach at Cape Winelands Automation. When carrying out a gate motor repair or replacement in Wellington, we look at the complete gate system rather than focusing only on the motor.

The result is a more comprehensive upgrade, with the motor, wheels and track working together as one system.

New Rack and Guide Wheels

With the track and gate wheels upgraded, we also replaced the gate rack and guide wheels as part of the Wellington installation.

The new rack provides a clean engagement point between the gate and the D10 SMART drive system. It also removes worn components from the previous setup and gives the new motor a fresh rack to work with.

We replaced the guide wheels at the same time. These wheels help keep the gate correctly positioned as it travels along the track.

Upgrading these components together prepared the gate for the new Centurion D10 SMART. Instead of fitting a new motor onto an older setup, we improved the key mechanical components that support the gate’s movement.

This complete approach forms an important part of our gate motor repair and installation service in Wellington. The motor is only one part of the system, while the rack, wheels and track all contribute to smooth and reliable operation.

Safety and Access Control Upgrades

The installation also included important upgrades to the gate’s safety and access-control equipment.

Wireless Infrared Safety Beam

To improve the gate’s safety system, we installed a new wireless infrared beam. This beam helps detect an obstruction in the gate’s path and adds an important safety feature to the automated gate.

The wireless design also keeps the installation neat while avoiding unnecessary cabling between the relevant components.

Additional Access Control

As another upgrade, we installed an Accentronix cell switch within the gate motor system. This provides the complex with an additional practical option for managing access through the automated gate.Accentronix cell switch installed in gate motor in Wellington

Rather than treating these improvements as separate extras, we included them as part of the wider gate motor upgrade. The aim was to leave the complex with a complete system combining the new D10 SMART motor with improved mechanical, safety and access-control components.

For a complex environment, these details matter. Automated gates can operate many times throughout the day, making reliable movement and appropriate safety equipment important parts of a professional installation.

D10 SMART Power Supply Upgrade

Extra Power Capacity for the New Installation

We also upgraded the power supply as part of this Wellington gate motor installation.

The photo comparison shows the upgraded power supply next to the standard power supply, making the difference in size and capacity easy to see.

We fitted the upgraded power supply inside the new Centurion D10 SMART installation. This forms part of our approach to building a gate automation system around the demands of the site rather than simply replacing the damaged motor.

The upgraded power supply also carries our Cape Winelands Automation branding and contact details. This identifies the installation and provides the complex with our details for future service and maintenance.

Together with the D10 SMART motor, upgraded wheels, refreshed track, new rack, guide wheels and safety equipment, the power-supply upgrade forms part of a complete Wellington gate automation solution.Upgraded power supply compared with standard supply for D10 SMART in Wellington

Once the mechanical and electrical work was complete, we finished the Wellington installation with the new Centurion D10 SMART gate motor and supporting components.

The completed installation brings the main upgrades together. The system now includes the D10 SMART, new 120mm gate wheels, refreshed track, new rack, new guide wheels and upgraded safety equipment.

We also fitted an anti-theft bracket to provide additional protection for the gate motor. This forms part of our focus on completing installations properly rather than simply fitting the motor and leaving the existing setup unchanged.

Our Workmanship on Display

The completed installation shows the attention given to the gate as a complete system. From the refurbished track and new wheels to the rack, motor and safety equipment, each component was checked as part of the upgrade.

Our Cape Winelands Automation installation sticker is also clearly visible on the completed system. It provides the complex with our company identification and contact details for future servicing and maintenance.

For us, a professional gate motor installation should look neat, function correctly and leave the customer with confidence in the work carried out.

This Wellington project is another example of how we approach gate motor repairs and upgrades: assess the complete system, address the mechanical issues and install the right equipment for the application.

Why More Complexes Are Choosing Cape Winelands Automation

Reliable gate automation requires more than simply installing a motor. It also requires experience with gate motor repairs, installations, maintenance and the mechanical systems that keep a gate operating reliably.

The Wellington complex featured in this installation recently joined the Cape Winelands Automation family. We were pleased to begin that relationship with a complete gate motor upgrade focused on reliable operation and a properly prepared gate system.

More Than Just a Motor Replacement

Instead of fitting a new motor onto the existing setup, we assessed the complete gate system and upgraded several important components.

The work included the Centurion D10 SMART, 120mm gate wheels, refreshed track, a new rack, new guide wheels and additional safety and access-control equipment.

This approach follows the same principle we used during our recent Centurion D10 SMART installation in Paarl. In both projects, we looked at the motor, gate movement and supporting components as one complete system.

Experience That Goes Beyond the Motor

Our experience with gate motor repairs and installations allows us to look at the wider system when we attend a site.

For complexes, this is particularly important because automated gates can operate many times throughout the day. A reliable installation therefore depends on the motor, gate movement, mechanical components and safety equipment working together correctly.

We are proud to welcome this Wellington complex to the Cape Winelands Automation family. We look forward to supporting them with professional gate automation repairs, installations and maintenance in the years ahead.
